1. WHAT IS THE COLLEGES' ADMISSION POLICY?
Each College’s constitution entrenches the right of all children to join the school, subject to the following conditions:
- The ability of the parent to pay the tuition fees.
- The child is of school going age and within the age range of the cohort.
- The child meets the academic standard required for children of that age as determined by an academic placement assessment.
- The College can offer tuition in the subjects required by the child.
2. WHAT IS THE ENROLMENT PROCEDURE?
Parents complete an application form, pay the R750 administration fee and upon successful completion of the academic placement assessment the head will write a letter of acceptance to the parent. At this stage a non-refundable entrance fee of R15000 is payable.
3. WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE SCHOOL FEES?
The fees at the Centurus Colleges tend to be inclusive. This means that many school activities, including exercise and text books, are included in the fee. Please consult the Tuition Fee document of the particular school you are interested in to obtain further specific information in this regard.
4. WHAT ARE THE SIZES OF YOUR CLASSES?
These are as follows:
- Grade 000 – 18 learners,
- Grade 00 – 20 learners,
- Grade 0 – 22 learners,
- All other grades: between 24 and 25.
4. WHAT EDEUCATION SYSTEM DO YOU FOLLOW?
The Independent Examination Board curriculum (IEB). This is based on the National Schools’ Curriculum.
5. ARE YOUR SCHOOLS CO-EDUCATIONAL OR MONASTIC?
The Centurus Colleges are co-educational, catering for boys and girls from the age of three to eighteen.
6. ARE THERE BOARDING FACILITIES?
Southdowns College has boarding facilities for up to 75 learners
7. WHAT ARE YOUR FACILITIES LIKE?
The facilities at each College differ slightly. However, common characteristics are:
- A gated, guarded , secure campus.
- Ample parking.
- Large airy classrooms with quality finishes and hand basins and lockers in each classroom.
- Wide corridors often used to protect children against the elements.
- Extensive and well maintained sports fields.
- A 50 metre swimming pool at each school.
- A two to three computer centres at each school, depending on size.
- A clean, fully equipped school tuck shop.
- A dedicated, fully equipped learning enrichment centre at each school.
8. WHAT IS THE DISCIPLINE AND DRUGS POLICY?
Each College has its own unique policy, applicable to its own circumstances and the age of the learners. These are drawn up by senior management within the school and amended regularly. Kindly consult the section of the particular school’s website under Codes of Conduct.
9. DO YOU HAVE BULLYING AT YOUR SCHOOLS?
All schools contain learners who believe that robust treatment by their peers from time to time constitutes ‘bullying’. At Centurus Colleges we take learner conduct seriously and respect for your fellow pupil plays a major role in our values education. Many forums (assemblies, coaching sessions and mentorship periods) are used to inculcate appropriate behavior in our young people. A qualified psychologist is available on the staff of each College and parent and teacher seminars are run regularly. The counseling done by our professional staff is outstanding.
